Gallup: employees in AI-adopting organizations report more disruption — and more productivity

A Gallup survey of 23,717 US employees, fielded in February 2026, offers one of the larger snapshots of how AI adoption feels from inside organizations.

Among all US employees, 18 percent said it was very or somewhat likely their job would be eliminated within five years due to AI or automation. In organizations that have adopted AI, that share was 23 percent. Twenty-seven percent of employees at AI-adopting organizations described their workplace as having changed in disruptive ways over the past year, versus 17 percent where AI had not been adopted.

At the same time, Gallup reports that employees who use AI frequently say it improves their productivity — while evidence that AI has fundamentally changed how work gets done across whole organizations remains limited.

Read together with recent Federal Reserve research finding no reduction in job postings at higher-AI-adoption firms, the picture is consistent: disruption is real and unevenly felt, expectations of job loss run ahead of measured job loss, and the productivity gains show up first for the workers who engage with the tools directly.
